Danielle Hopton, an animal lover from Colorado was beaten to death by her ex-boyfriend, according to People. The incident came to light after Fort Collins Police was alerted about an unconscious and injured woman in the parking lot of 525 East Drake Road on 6 February 2021. Though the girl was rushed to a local hospital, her life could not be saved. She succumbed to her injuries.

Soon investigators tracked down the man responsible for the heinous crime. 20-year-old Stephen McNeil was charged for the murder of the girl. The police stated that the duo knew each other. They stated that the couple  "had previously been in a relationship."

The duo attended Fossil Ridge High School. Hopton graduated with the class of 2020 with an academic award. The authorities claimed that the duo along with 20-year-old Ian Rayas drove to the Whispering Pines Apartments at 525 East Drake Road after hanging out with their friends.

He was charged with first-degree murder, a felony, domestic violence, violation of a protection order, and violation of bail bond conditions.

Rayas who had initially denied knowing anything about the incident was also charged on felony charges of attempt to influence a public servant and accessory to a crime. They are both booked into the Larimer County Jail. Meanwhile, the authorities found that McNeil was arrested previously in December for felony assault involving strangulation.
