The incident pertaining to the case occurred in July of 2018. The two-year-old who was admitted to the hospital with a burst intestine died due to an infection. Based on the findings of the investigation, the child was left with no medical care for days after the assault.
The emergency services were only called when the child became unresponsive. The mother told the dispatchers that the child had been "dehydrating" and throwing up. So, paramedics arrived at the family's home to discover the shocking condition of the toddler. His body was severely bruised and the helpless child was vomiting up his own bile.
Immediately, he was transported to the hospital. However, it was too late. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, the child did not survive. Doctors stated that the child could have made it alive if he was given adequate care and treatments earlier. On being questioned, the mother stated that her boyfriend was in charge of taking care of her son while she was away at work.

According to Orlando Sentinel, the woman stated that she noticed her son did not seem like his usual energetic self when she returned from work on 15 July 2018.
Though the investigators did not name the boyfriend or the mother in particular as the suspect in beating the child to death, they mentioned Pursglove's history of domestic violence. They found that the boyfriend had violently disciplined the child in the past and had also attacked the mother when she intervened, in case he went overboard.

Initially, the mother along with her boyfriend was charged with aggravated manslaughter. Previously, the biological father of the deceased child defended the mother and told the authorities that her baby was "everything" to her. But Toth still would face up to 15 years in prison on her current charges.
Meanwhile, Pursglove still faces aggravated manslaughter charges. He is held at the Orange County Jail till his next hearing on 3 March 2021.
