They made the romantic day much more special for themselves
It's the most romantic day of the year and we're sure many are trying their best to make the day special for their beloved. These celebrities, however, took it a step further by either getting married on engaged on Valentine's day.
1. Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart
The Indiana Jones star and Supergirl alum got engaged in 2009 on this very day. The couple went on to tie the knot the following June in Santa Fe, New Mexico, reported Us Magazine. Turns out their valentine's day engagement was not the only highlight of their love story, the way the two met seems like a scene right out of a Rom-Com. During the 2002 Golden Globes, Flockhart had apparently spilled wine on Ford and it was love at first sight. The couple is still together and has a son Liam, who they adopted in 2001.
2. Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid
The couple was one of Hollywood's hottest A-list couples at the time. The two wed on Valentine's day in 1991 and it seemed perfect. The couple then went on to welcome son Jack in 1992. Their relationship met an ill fate in years to come after Ryan was caught having an affair with Russell Crowe in 1997. “The reasons we broke up have nothing to do with another person,” the actress told W magazine in October 2000. “My marriage was broken — nobody else broke it up." Quaid in an interview with the Independent said that he had no ill feelings towards her and still loves her, “I’m very fond of her, and we have a lot of fun. We spent 13 good years together. We had a kid together, and we shared so much: she made my life," he further said. Quaid has since moved on with Savoie, whom he wed in June 2020, while Ryan had an on-off relationship with John Mellencamp that ended in October 2019.
3. Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom
After her split with Russell Brand, Perry found love with Orlando Bloom. The two got engaged after he popped the question on Valentine's day. Perry's mother, Mary Hudson took to Facebook to announce the news. "Look who got engaged on Valentine's day," the excited mother wrote. The couple later confirmed the news by posting a selfie on Instagram showing off Perry's ring. Bloom wrote "Lifetimes" in the caption of the picture uploaded in his handle while Katy Perry wrote "Full Bloom" on hers. The couple welcomes their daughter Daisy last year.
4. Salma Hayek and François-Henri Pinault
The actress had won the hearts of many men but there was only one man who could truly win her over, François-Henri Pinault. She then wed him on Valentine’s Day in 2009. The couple then married in an Italian style ceremony in April 2009 and had a vow renewal in Bora Bora in August 2018. The couple welcomed their daughter in 2007, her name - Valentina!
5. Christina Aguilera and Matthew Rutler
The famous pop star got engaged to Rutler on Valentine's day in 2014 after being together for nearly three years. “He asked and I said ……” she wrote as she announced the engagement on Twitter. The couple has a daughter together named Summer Rain.
6. Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter
Cumberbatch wed Hunter in England on Valentine's Day in 2015, Sophie was pregnant with their first child at the time. The couple met at the set of the 2009 film Burlesque Fairytales where they were co-actors. The two were seeing other people at the time, Sophie was dating Conrad Shawcross, while Benedict was with Olivia Poulet. In time to come, the two would go on to find love with each other after splitting from their respective partners. The couple now has two 'confirmed' children together, by that we mean that we know for sure about the two kids but not much about the 'possible third baby' that the Internet is still going crazy about.
7. Prince and Mayte Garcia
The “Purple Rain” legend and renowned dancer tied the knot on Valentine’s Day in 1996. Garcia met Prince when she was 16-years-old. She worked for him as a dancer and the two developed a deep friendship that turned romantic in years to come. Unfortunately, things didn't end well for the pair and they divorced in June 2000.
