8-Year-Old Girl Gets Dragged 300 Feet Trying To Stop Her Mom From Drunk Driving

The young girl grabbed the door handle of the passenger side of her car, telling her mom to stop.

A mom in California has been arrested after she reportedly dragged her young daughter along the road in a car. The little girl was pulled 300 feet along the road as she clung to the car door in an attempt to stop her mother's drunk driving.  Police said in a press release that 44-year-old Erin Garcia of Laguna Niguel left her mother's home in Placentia while she was allegedly intoxicated. Her 8-year-old daughter was concerned about her mother driving in that state. So she grabbed the door handle of the passenger side of her car, telling her mother to stop. But instead of stopping, she was dragged away alongside the vehicle for around 300 feet, scraping her legs and feet.

A male adult onlooker took notice of the situation and intervened, and so did the girl's grandmother. They tried to get 44-year-old Garcia out of the car but failed. Garcia then drove away once more, this time with the bystander being dragged for a "short distance." He managed to get away from the vehicle after which Garcia drove away. After a brief period, Garcia was found hiding behind bushes in the backyard of the grandmother's home. When officials arrived at the scene Garcia resisted by kicking at police when they tried to arrest her. She was successfully captured without later incident, police stated. The girl and the adult onlooker were both taken to hospital with moderate injuries. As for Garcia, who lives in the Orange County city of Laguna Niguel, she was taken to Orange County Jail and has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment, and battery against an officer, the statement said.  Garcia is being held on $100,000 bail and is due to appear in court Monday, according to CBSLA
