On January 3, 2020, as part of her and her husband's New Year wishes, she also announced the birth of their baby girl!
From The Mask to Charlie's Angels to My Sister's Keeper, Cameron Diaz has been stealing hearts all over the world with her beauty, grace, wit, and talent. Diaz recently gave birth to her first child with her husband, Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden.
But behind that wide smile and twinkling eyes lay a woman who has faced tremendous hardship. And one of those struggles was waiting to become a mother. Yet, she had hope and never gave up.
Before the now 47-year-old actress met her husband, she wasn't completely against the idea of having children. During a 2012 In Style interview, the actress said during her press tour to promote What to Expect When You’re Expecting, "Society definitely puts pressure on women to make them think their lives should go a certain way."
"I’ve never said I don’t want children — I just haven’t had children yet. I don’t know what’s going to happen in my life! I could end up adopting children. I could end up with a partner who already has children. Who knows? I’m not trying to fit into anyone’s box about how I should be. I just fit in my own box."
After she met the love of her life, Benji Madden, in 2014, her priorities changed. Since getting married in 2015, the What Happens in Vegas actress had been trying to get pregnant. But it was truly difficult. For years, she had been undergoing IVF treatment, according to Metro UK. However, nothing really took. Even the one treatment that seemed to work fizzled out. A source explained, "Cameron was super healthy, had the best doctors - and still, nothing. There were a lot of tears."
Wanting to still be a mother, the couple decided to look at adoption. And during this tough time for Diaz, her husband was right by her side to make sure she got a chance to achieve her dream. "Thank God for Benji, who was always very supportive. He didn’t care how they had a baby - he was determined to make Cameron a mum," said the source.
One insider revealed that that the Longevity author had done everything she could to get pregnant, "like working out and eating fertility-boosting foods, and she’s even resorted to scheduling sex." But the treatments had been "brutal" on her body. "[She] gained weight and her moods fluctuated wildly," a source said.
The couple soon discussed looking at surrogacy and adoption options, A friend said, “They were so locked into the idea of conceiving, but they ended up constantly crushed. Opening up to this possibility has lifted a weight off their shoulders. They’re ecstatic."
The couple was given good news — one of the IVF treatments had worked (whether on Diaz or a surrogate, is unclear)! A source told In Touch at the time, "There were some really tough times when she thought motherhood maybe just wasn’t in the cards for her, but she never gave up hope that someday she would become a mum." The source also revealed how happy the retired actress and the guitarist were with this miracle, according to EIVF: "They have a baby on the way, and they couldn’t be happier."
And on January 3, 2020, the celebrity couple announced the arrival of their daughter, Raddix Madden, according to LA Times. Taking to Instagram, the couple posted New Year greetings as well as their good news.
Well, it seems like 2020 truly is going to be a beautiful year for Diaz and her expanding family. We wish them all the best and lots of love.
