Can You Guess How Many Girls Are In This Photo?

The photo which has been baffling the Internet was taken by Swiss photographer Tiziana Vergari and shared in 2016.

Is it an optical illusion? Or is the answer clear as day? A photograph taken by Swiss photographer Tiziana Vergari and uploaded in 2016 has been leaving the Internet quite confused. Even after all these years, people can't seem to make up their minds on how many girls are there in the photo. The element that adds to the confusion seems to be a mirror which makes it even more difficult to determine the number of people in the photo.

Tiziana Vergari uploaded the baffling photo as part of an Instagram Weekend Hashtag Project, captioning it: Same but different | My entry #whpidentity for Instagram. The #WHPidentity hashtag was created as part of Instagram’s Weekend Hashtag Project which is a series featuring designated themes and hashtags. According to Simplemost, Vergari's image even went on to win "Instagram Photo of the Year" by the Shorty Awards. The Shorty Awards works to honor the "best of social media." So what makes an image stand out from the rest? "There are over 600 million Instagram users, and the number of images posted to the app is almost endless, so narrowing them down is no small feat. But our nominees for the Instagram Photo of the Year are those indelible images that you can’t forget once you see them, tapping into the spirit of a moment in a way others do not. They are, simply, the best," reads a description of the awards. So how many do you see?

Redditors joined in on the debate with their own conclusions. Most people determined the number could be up to 14. Some pointed out that a few were 'real' girls and the others were 'reflections.'  "There's four. Look closely...look closer.. Two sets of twins (or girls that look very similar) and a mirror....very nicely done photograph," wrote DvsDominus.  "I should mention the slight difference in hair from the first girl to the 4th/5th reflection. Not to mention the darkness around the eyes. Also, first has a longer face while the other has a shorter, less sharp jawline," noted sensiblynonsensical. To which MattSpew replied: The colour/brightness would drop with each reflection; a mirror doesn't reflect 100% of the light. I'm pretty confident there are only two girls.

Some people argued that the photographer had placed two sets of identical twins to create an illusion meaning that there were four 'real' girls. On the original Instagram post, One user said: 4 girls. 2 sets of twins. Clue is in the description. Another added: There’s clearly four. Look at how the reflections are. If you see their face, the mirror shows the back of their head. If you see the back of the head, the mirror shows the face. The girls just look similar. What do you'll think? Have a look at it one more time. Still can't figure out? Well, we have an answer. According to The Express, Vergari came out with the true and final answer. According to her, there are actually only two girls in the photo, who are believed to be her daughters.
