Charles Proudly Told Diana, "I Refuse To Be The Only Prince Of Wales Who Never Had A Mistress," Referring To Camilla

Princess Diana confronted Camilla and stated that she wanted her husband back.

Betrayal is one thing but admitting to it and defending it is a whole new level. It shows the blatant disrespect a person has towards their partner. Princess Diana was forced to stay in such an unhappy and soul-crushing marriage. She spent more than a decade hoping to gain Prince Charles's love, but she was always left disappointed. Their relationship got to a point where Charles did not even care to hide his affair with Camilla. In fact, he questioned Diana who confronted him about it.

According to Cheat Sheet, Prince Charles justified his affair with Camilla with his royal status. He told Diana that he could not be the "only" one without a mistress. He reportedly stated, "I refuse to be the only Prince of Wales who never had a mistress."

Despite being shocked by her husband's attitude, Diana was not willing to give up. She was so determined that she felt the right person to talk to was Camilla herself. So the Princess showed up at a party just to speak to her. For the first time, she confronted the woman who took her husband's love away from her.

“I know what’s going on between you and Charles and I just want you to know that," said Diana. Camilla responded to her saying, "You’ve got everything you ever wanted. You’ve got all the men in the world fall in love with you and you’ve got two beautiful children, what more do you want?’”

In response to Camilla's reaction, Diana firmly stated, "I want my husband. I’m sorry I’m in the way … and it must be hell for both of you. But I do know what’s going on. Don’t treat me like an idiot.’”

Despite her efforts, Charles and Camilla carried on with their romance. Years later in a secret recording, the Princess revealed that Charles cheated on her with his father Prince Philip's knowledge. “My father-in-law said to my husband ‘if your marriage doesn’t work out, you can always go back to her after five years,’" said Diana, according to Mirror Online. She added, "Which is exactly - I mean, for real I knew that it had happened after five (years) - I knew something was happening before that but the fifth year I had confirmation."

However, Prince Philip reportedly stepped in to help Diana when her marriage with Charles was falling apart. He was open about his son's affair and told Diana that he never thought his son would leave her for Camilla.

“Charles was silly to risk everything with Camilla for a man in his position. We never dreamed he might feel like leaving you for her. I cannot imagine anyone in their right mind leaving you for Camilla. Such a prospect never even entered our heads," wrote Prince Philip in a letter. He further stated, "I can only repeat what I have said before. If invited, I will always do my utmost to help you and Charles to the best of my ability. But I am quite ready to concede that I have no talent as a marriage counselor!!!”

Whereas, the Queen did not offer Diana much help other than calling her son "hopeless."

At the end of it all, Diana did not manage to rebuild her relationship with Charles. Eventually, the only solution to their tumultuous marriage was a divorce. Though she was sad about the split, she knew her husband wanted nothing more from her.
