“It’s hard for a child to lose two parents on the same night and on Father’s Day, a day that should be loved.."
Four-month-old Chosen is orphaned after his parents were shot dead on Father’s Day (June 19, 2022). The tragic event occurred after a dispute with a neighbor over a dog.
The couple—Christina Dang, 27, and Chase Garrett, 39—was shot in the driveway of their Hartford multi-family home in Franklin Avenue at around 9:00 p.m. Officers arrived to find three shooting victims—two dead and one in critical condition. The injured victim was rushed to the hospital and remained in critical condition, police said to NBC Connecticut. Additionally, she lived at the same address as the other victims. However, the nature of the relationship between the two deceased victims and the critically injured one hasn’t been revealed yet.
Just a few hours before the tragic event took place, Garrett had posted a video on his Facebook page, writing, “Never thought I would be a Father … but I’ll try and be the best dad I can be … taught me and teaching me so much! My lil Angel … literally.” The caption was posted along with a video of him and his son. The couple had moved to Hartford, Connecticut to be closer to Garrett’s family and raise their newborn baby.

The altercation between the shooter and the victims began in a dispute over a dog. It is unclear who the dog belonged to. “I can’t say it enough, we have to find better ways to resolve our conflicts in non-violent ways. It is frustrating for the officers because these are difficult to predict and difficult to prevent,” Hartford Police Chief Jason Thody said, as per New York Post.
Julie Dang, Christina’s sister, made a comment on the tragic event. “Christina was my baby sister. She was a beautiful soul full of life. She was a mother to a four-month-old Chosen and she lost her life over a senseless argument,” she said. “It’s hard for a child to lose two parents on the same night and on Father’s Day, a day that should be loved and, you know.” Olivia Anderson, her cousin, added, referring to Christina, “She just had him in February and she was trying to do better for herself and for her family.”
