"We can't help who we fall in love with," the mother apparently told her heartbroken daughter.
In a shocking turn of events, a father-of-two ran away with his girlfriend's mother just a few days after the girlfriend gave birth to their baby son, the Daily Mail reported. Jess Aldridge, 24, was expecting her second child with boyfriend Ryan Shelton, 29, when the pair decided to move in with her mother, Georgina, 44, and her husband, Eric, at their home in Gloucestershire. Aldridge had taken the decision with hopes of getting some support from her mother but unbeknownst to her, her mother would go on to have an affair with her boyfriend.
The grandmother-of-six had apparently started flirting with Shelton just weeks after they had moved in. By the time Aldridge had returned home from hospital with her newborn, Reuben, the 'couple' had run off together and moved into a new home 30 miles away. "It's the ultimate betrayal. You expect a new grandmother to fall in love with the baby — not the father. She is meant to be a granny to my two children and helping me look after them but instead she's off sh***ing my boyfriend," a heartbroken Aldridge told The Sun UK.
Aldridge recalled noticing her boyfriend and mother "always being so flirty" and drinking Bacardi while "joking around in the kitchen every night". She did confront the pair but they denied anything was happening. Aldridge would later discover that they had been having a secret affair during her pregnancy. Few hours after she gave birth, Aldridge received a text message from Shelton ending their three-year relationship. He had only seen Reuben, their child, for a few minutes after he was born and for ten minutes the day after. After she was discharged, Aldridge was shocked to discover her mother and her boyfriend had fled and gone to live together elsewhere. They apparently continued to deny that they were in a relationship until they were confronted once again two days later. "We can't help who we fall in love with," the 'shameless' mother apparently told her. The pair have now taken things a little further and have confirmed that they are in a relationship on Facebook.
Aldridge says her mother, who had been married once before, had previously spoken to her about wanting to separate from Eric, her husband of 12 years, just a few weeks before her delivery. Neither her mother nor her ex-boyfriend has apologized to her. The new mother has now returned to the rented home she used to share with the father of her children, the Daily Mail UK reported.
