Firefighter Responding To A Rescue Call Ends Up At His Own Home To Find His Sick Wife Dead In Their Bedroom

The firefighter heard his house address come over the air and was there to put out the fire that engulfed his home but couldn't save his wife.

For more than 20 years, Corey Logan has worked as a firefighter for the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. Out of his two-decades-worth of service, there is now one particular day that stands out from the rest in a painful way, and that is the day he responded to a call regarding a fire at his own house.

On Tuesday, November 10, Corey had just had lunch when he received a notification on his phone that showed a neighbor banging on his door in panic through the doorbell camera, according to Inside Edition.

The firefighter already grew worried because he knew his wife, who suffered from a longtime medical condition, was inside the house. Corey had been the primary caretaker for his wife, Rose Logan, 47, for a long time, and after getting the ring notification that afternoon, he hurried with his co-worker to the house.

Soon, the information was dispatched to the firefighters and it was Corey's address that they had to respond to. They rushed to the house that was along Northwest 12th Avenue and 18th Street.

"As we were a couple mins out a housefire was dispatched and it was his address that came over the air. He knew it immediately," read the GoFundMe page set up for Corey.

"Unfortunately, when we arrived we had the worst-case scenario. There was heavy smoke and fire coming from his house w his wife inside. We did our job and put the fire out and searched as fast as we could but were too late."

A county emergency worker revealed that Corey "was one of the first in. He was on the engine company that responded," as reported by Miami Herald.

Corey was there to put out the fire at his own house, and when he made his way to the bedroom, he laid eyes on the devastating sight of his dead wife, who couldn't escape, and passed away as a result of the smoke and flames that engulfed their home.

According to WSVN-TV, a neighbor, Willie Robinson, said about the couple, "Most times, I see him taking care of her. Looked like true love to me."

"This is a Fireman's worst nightmare!" Corey's co-worker, Christopher Morales, wrote on the GoFundMe page. "Not only did he show up first to his house burning, but also lost the love of his life as a result of the fire as well. His whole world has been flipped upside down and he needs our help!"

Hoping to raise funds for the bereaved husband, the co-worker went on to say, "I am asking for any and everyone who can to help OUR BROTHER in this tragic time. He will need help with everything to get his life and family’s life back together. ANY donation amount will help and be appreciated to get him back on his feet as he deals w this tragedy. Please keep him and his family in your prayers as we help him navigate this unfortunate event. Thank you for your time and God Bless!!!"

Kind donors have so far been able to raise $153,976 for the firefighter, who was described as "hands down one of the best D/O’s on The Job!"

Following the tragic incident, officials confirmed that Corey's wife passed away in the fire. Spokeswoman Erika Benitez said, as quoted by New York Post, "At this time, out of respect for the family, we kindly ask for privacy as they are dealing with this tragic loss. We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we are focusing on supporting our firefighter and their family."
