Thousands mourned and gathered outside the venue to pay their tributes.
George Floyd is a name that will always be remembered in history. His painful and brutal death led to a revolution around the world. People from all backgrounds have come together to fight the racial inequalities that have disrupted the lives of many. His death motivated the public to raise their voices against the prolonged discrimination and brutality towards people of color, especially the black community.
According to People, Floyd's loved ones bid farewell to him in a ceremony that took place on 9 June 2020. The two-hour funeral service was held in Houston's 2,000-seat Fountain of Praise church. However, in attempts to keep up with the pandemic guidelines, the number of guests was limited to 500.
However, a large crowd gathered outside the church to pay their respects to the man, who ignited a lasting flame in their hearts. The service at Floyd's native place was supposed to mark as a home-going "grand finale". He will be laid down to rest next to his mother, whom he called out just before passing away.
His family dressed in white honored his memory. “The world knows George Floyd. I know him as Perry Jr. He was a pesky little rascal, but we all loved him," said his aunt, Kathleen McGee, according to the New York Times. Delivering his eulogy, Rev. Al Sharpton, the civil rights leader stated, "This was not just a tragedy. It was a crime."
Prior to the service, a six-hour public viewing of Floyd in his open gold casket was organized. His grieving family handed out cards that stated, "Because of you, we have gained comfort and strength. We would like for each of you to know that George is now one of God's beautiful angels and will FOREVER breathe in our hearts."
Previously, memorial services were organized in Minneapolis where he died and Raeford, N.C., near the place he was born. Thousands attended these services and paid their tribute to him.

Though the world has bid their final goodbyes to him, the protests and uprising that he inspired are still going on. The first protests erupted soon after the video of his death went viral.
It showed the man being pinned down to the ground by the officer Derek Chauvin using his knee. In spite of Floyd crying out, the officer continued to apply pressure, eventually leading to the loss of his life, according to CNN.
"Please, I can't breathe, My stomach hurts. My neck hurts. Everything hurts. ... (I need) water or something. Please. Please. I can't breathe, officer. I cannot breathe. I cannot breathe," said the 46-year-old, just moments before his death.
