Kenny Rogers' marriage with Wanda Miller was unconventional but they shared something that was real.
Finding your true love may not be easy. It is normal for people to stumble and fall into wrong relationships before finding the one who is meant to be with you forever. Kenny Rogers, the famous country singer went through many broken relationships before finding the love of his life, Wanda Miller.
Rogers met Miller while he was on a date at a restaurant. In his book, Luck or Something Like It, the singer recalled that day and wrote, "[My date and I] had chosen a little Italian restaurant called Pricci and were in the middle of our "getting to know each other" banter when the hostess walked by our table," according to Cheatsheet.
He continued, "I’m honestly not sure she even looked at me, but I saw her. I don’t know what and I don’t know why, but there was just something incredibly different about her from the minute I saw her. She had a smile, not a hostess smile, but something more genuine, and believe it or not, it rocked me to my core."
Smitten by Miller, the singer wanted to know more about her. However, he did not want to approach her directly. Instead, he inquired with the restaurant manager.
Soon, the two hit it off in spite of their 28-year age difference. While Miller was in love with Rogers, her parents were not very thrilled with their relationship. Speaking to Fox, the singer stated, "Her parents are two years younger than me. They called me when we started dating and said, ‘We want you to know we didn’t appreciate what you’re doing with our daughter,’ and I said, ‘First of all I don’t blame you. I don’t think I would either but I will make you a promise. I will never lie to her and I will never lie to you.’"
Rogers was in love with Miller and he wanted her to be a part of his life. "As wrong as it may have looked, I also knew this — my relationship with Wanda felt right to me," recalled the legendary singer, according to Popculture.
Soon, Miller's parents too agreed and the couple tied the knot in 1997. Their marriage thrived and the couple spent 12 beautiful years together before welcoming their little twin boys in 2004. "The first 12 years we were together, I went everywhere with him. Then when the kids came along, you have to prioritize," said Miller in 2004, according to Nicki Swift. Rogers praised his wife for being a great mother and even said they were as lucky as him to have her in their life.
"I have such great respect for her as a mother. She is the most phenomenal mother I have ever seen. The boys are so lucky to have her and so am I," said the singer, according to Nicki Swift. The couple loved being parents and always put the boys before them. Rogers insisted on spending quality time with his kids and said he was a father first and then a singer.
"I know as well as anybody else how that time gets away from you. And I don't want to miss it. I just worry about how much longer I'm going to be here, and I want to have time to spend with them. It's pretty simple," stated Rogers, according to Nicki Swift.
Meanwhile, his marriage with Miller was joyous and the singer had nothing to complain about. In an interview with Fox, he said, "She is truly my soul mate. She knows me better than anyone has ever known me before. We’ve been together for 20 years."
On 20, March 2020, the great musician bid farewell to the world after nearly 23 years of being with his love. His commitment to her remained strong and their love blossomed till the very end.
