A mother's pain of losing her child is incomparable to anything in the world. It shatters her spirit and breaks her heart into pieces. The memories of her child bring tears to her eyes and her heart hopes to spend one last time with them. Lisa Marie Presley is going through such agony. The mother, who lost her son Benjamin Keough to suicide, is trying to cope with the harsh reality of her life.
According to People, Lisa Marie paid tribute to her "beautiful" son on what would have been his 28th birthday. The mother of four shared a post remembering her son on October 21, 2020, on Instagram. She posted an old picture of his birthday celebration and wrote, "My beautiful beautiful angel, I worshipped the ground you walked on, on this earth and now in Heaven. My heart and soul went with you."
She further wrote, "The depth of the pain is suffocating and bottomless without you every moment of every day. I will never be the same."
The devastated mother went on to ask her boy to wait for her while she takes care of his sisters, Riley Keough, 31, and 11-year-old twins, Harper, and Finley. She concluded, "Please wait for me my love, and hold my hand while I stay to continue to protect and raise your little sisters and to be here for Riley. I know you would want that. Happy Birthday my sweet sweet Boy. You were much too good for this world."
Benjamin killed himself on July 12, 2020, in Calabasas, California. His death had a profound impact on Lisa Marie who loved him incredibly. After his death, a representative of the singer stated she was "beyond devastated" over the death of her son. Lisa Marie and Benjamin shared a close bond. The mother and son duo had such a strong connection that they even got matching tattoos for Mother's Day. Alluding to their tattoos on Twitter, the proud mother said it was “a Celtic eternity knot” that represented “eternal love and connection.”
Moreover, Benjamin, a spitting image of his grandfather Elvis Presley, reminded Lisa Marie of her late father. The singer once spoke of how his striking resemblance to her father astonished people. “He was at the Opry and was the quiet storm behind the stage! Everybody turned around and looked when he was over there. Everybody was grabbing him for a photo because it is just uncanny. Sometimes I am overwhelmed when I look at him," said the 52-year-old.
Apart from Lisa Marie, Benjamin's sister too paid tributes to her brother on his birthday. Posting a throwback picture on Instagram, Riley wrote, "Happy Birthday beautiful angel."
Benjamin's girlfriend, Diana Pinto who dated him from 2017 till his death in 2020 also remembered him by posting numerous pictures of their joyful times together. She wrote, "Happy birthday my love. Not much to say just a really hard day, And isn't it ironic World Series Tampa Bay v Dodgers this year, I bet you're getting a kick outta that. I love you."
After Benjamin's death, his family admitted he was battling with many issues. They even stated his death wasn't a "huge surprise." His close friend claimed the young man struggled to live up to the Presley name.
"That kind of pressure is definitely a part of what happened. It's a tough thing when you have a lot of pressure with your family and living up to a name and an image. It's a lot of pressure. It's almost like you're pressured into having to be a musician, having to be an actor. It was good for him to go around the world and discover himself and have his own friends. You never know what triggers it," said his friend, musician Brandon Howard, according to Page Six.
