Police In Wisconsin "Actively Investigating" And Looking For Suspect Who Injured 8 In Milwaukee Mall Shooting

Seven adults and one teenager were injured in a mall shooting that was the result of an altercation, the authorities said.

An unfortunate incident took place on November 20, 2020, evening in Wisconsin's Wauwatosa that left eight people injured. The police are still trying to find the person responsible for a mass shooting that took place at the Mayfair Mall, which left seven adults and a teenager injured. Police searched for the suspect in the shooting at the suburban Milwaukee mall but haven't apprehended anyone yet.

The incident took place at 2:50 pm and three hours later, Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber shared a brief update about it. However, he didn't reveal what the motive of the attack was. Even the extent of the eight victims' injures is unknown. The shooting occurred near an entrance to the Macy's store. Weber was only able to say that the suspect was "no longer at the scene" when authorities arrived, as per ABC News.

"Preliminary statements from witnesses indicate that the shooter is a white male in his 20s or 30s," Weber told reporters. "Investigators are working on determining the identity of that suspect."

At 9:30 pm, Wauwatosa police said in a tweet that authorities had not made any arrests. They also provided a motive for the incident, which was no random act. "Preliminary investigation has led us to believe that this shooting was not a random act, and was the result of an altercation," said police. They said that the mall was cleared and secured. It was also announced that the mall will be shut on Saturday and investigators will be present at the premises throughout the night.

"Our thoughts go out to our community, especially those who were injured and affected by the incident today," Wauwatosa police said in a tweet. "Events like this shake a community, and we remain committed to protecting those who live in and visit Wauwatosa."

Witnesses, who were present during the shooting, shared what they saw and heard at the mall. "I work at Finish Line and I see... I heard a shot fired, but at first, we didn't know it was a shot," said Bianca Delos Reyes to NBC Chicago. "And then everyone was looking around... and then I saw a person fall." Bianca lives in Chicago but was at the Finish Line inside Macy's to help out. "As soon as I got to the parking lot, a lot of people were running right behind me," she said. "I tucked in between cars. We were all just in between cars trying to figure out what was happening. I swear it was more than 10 shots."

A woman who had been inside the mall with her 79-year-old mother said that they heard the series of gunshots just outside the store entrance. "We heard the first shot fired and knew immediately it was a gunshot," Jill Wooley was quoted as saying by ABC News. "We both just dropped to the floor." She didn't see anyone but swears that the shots were "very close." She added that she ran in the opposite direction to the basement of the store and that's where they hid.

A worried aunt, Trish Cox, frantically tried the Finish Line sporting goods store to get in touch with her 19-year-old nephew. It was not mentioned if she found Trish or not.

Meanwhile, the FBI and other law enforcement authorities who reached the mall will "methodically" investigate. Mall operator Brookfield Properties said in a statement they were "disheartened and angered that our guests and tenants were subject to this violent incident today."
