Trigger warning: Vehicular accidents, death of children
Having to watch your children die in front of your eyes is just heartbreaking. Unfortunately, a couple had to go through such a devastating experience.
According to People, 11-year-old Mark and 9-year-old Jacob Iskander from California were killed in front of their parents after a driver rammed into the boys. The children were walking with their family when the allegedly drunk driver identified as 57-year-old Rebecca Grossman ran them over.

The incident took place on September 29, 2020, around 7:10 pm. The family of six were crossing the road on a marked crosswalk at Triunfo Canyon Road and Saddle Mountain Drive in Westlake Village. As they were moving across the street, Grossman's speeding white Mercedes came towards them along with another speeding vehicle. Seeing the cars charging in their direction, the parents along with two younger siblings moved out of the way. However, Mark and Jacob could not make the move on time and became victims of the horrible accident.
Speaking of the dreadful accident, Capt. Salvador Becerra of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department stated, "The children were walking with their family. It is a very tragic situation. The mother and father were able to pull the other two children back in time, and the vehicle struck the two other children," according to ABC7.
Further, the sheriff added one of the brothers was on the hood of the car till Grossman stopped the car, at which time he rolled off. She continuously drove for more than a hundred feet before bringing the car to a halt. However, Grossman ran over the boy and continued driving.
The vehicle was found about a mile and a half away with a damaged front by the authorities. The identified driver is a famous socialite in Los Angeles.
One of the boys died at the scene while the other died at the hospital. "This is a devastating loss for our community. Two young boys with an entire lifetime ahead of them. Pray for the Iskander family tonight and hold your loved ones close," said State Sen. Henry Stern, in a social media post.
The Grossman Burn Foundation, co-founded by the driver also offered their condolences. "Like our entire community, the Grossman Burn Center family at West Hills Hospital is terribly saddened by this tragedy. Our sympathies are with all who have been affected," stated the organization.
After the initial investigation, authorities believe Grossman could have been drunk. They also think she might have been involved in some street racing with the other car that was speeding alongside her car. She was arrested and charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter. She was held at the Los Angeles County jail on a $2 million bail. However, the socialite was later released after posting bail, according to VC Star.
The death of the boys has broken the heart of the community in Westlake Village. Many gathered at the accident spot to honor the memory of the boys with flowers and toys. "Mark was a very sweet boy. He was well-educated, well-disciplined... He was friends with everyone," said Marcos Guirguis, a Simi Valley resident, according to Acorn. Others remembered them as energetic and bright boys.
Meanwhile, a GoFund Me page was started to help the grieving family with the funeral costs. The page stated, "While nothing we can do or say can bring back these dear angels, we hope to come together to contribute whatever we can to help their family with funeral costs and other unexpected expenses that will arise during this horrible and difficult time."
