This Is What Prince William Wanted To Be Instead Of A Monarch But His Fate Had Been Decided Before Birth

Prince William told his late mother that he was not keen on taking the throne.

Being born to a royal household comes with a comfortable lifestyle, but also a lot of responsibilities and accountability. Prince William was destined to become the future king of England from the day he was born, regardless of his choice. Though as a child, William's aspirations were nowhere close to taking the throne, as years went by, he realized his fate was premediated and looked forward to by his family members.

Taking those aspects into consideration,  William molded and prepared himself for his future role. Speaking to BBC News in 2016, the 38-year-old stated, "I don’t lie awake waiting to be king, because sadly that means that my family will have moved on and I don’t want that." William is second in line to the throne after his father, Prince Charles, He stated that he considered his royal duty to be "extremely important" and also claimed that he viewed his responsibilities "very seriously."

The prince added that he was heavily motivated by his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. “It’s been incredibly insightful for me growing up, watching her leadership in that role," said William. He added, "It’s important to grow into a particular role with the right characteristics and the right qualities and I think she’s exemplified that with everything she’s done.”

However, William claimed that his grandmother did not expect him to follow her entirely. She believed it was important for him to find his own path with the help of guidance and examples set by the people around him.

Meanwhile, the prince, who grew up in a broken household with his parents' tumultuous marriage, was not always inclined to the idea of becoming the king. According to the royal biography Andrew Morton, who wrote in William and Catherine: Their Lives, Their Wedding, Prince William wanted to be a cop. Unfortunately, he soon realized it was not what others wanted of him. Apparently, it was Harry who broke the news of his future career to William. Morton stated, "When William said once that he would like to be a policeman and look after his mother, Harry told him emphatically: 'You can't, you have to be King,'" according to Express

Princess Diana herself revealed how young William did not want to look forward to his future role. According to The List, broadcaster Jeremy Paxman stated that during one of his conversations with Diana, she told him how his elder son was not yet ready to take the throne. “We talked about our children, and she said William often told her that he didn’t really want to be king, and then Harry would say, ‘If you don’t want the job I’ll have it!'" said  Paxman.

However, Prince Harry has clearly moved on and the possibility of him becoming king is nowhere in the picture. Whereas, William has accepted his destiny.
