Sean Connery Battled Dementia During His Last Days & Wished To "Slip Away Without Any Fuss" | His Wish Came True

Sean Connery's wife, Micheline Roquebrune was with him when he passed away.

Legendary James Bond actor, Sean Connery passed away on October 31, 2020, in his sleep while he was in the Bahamas. His wife of 45 years, Micheline Roquebrune recounted his final days after his tragic death. She also revealed the last wish of the actor, who retired from acting in 2011. 

According to the Daily Mail, the actor struggled with dementia during his final days. With the health condition making his life difficult, Connery's last wish was to die peacefully. "He had dementia and it took its toll on him. He got his final wish to slip away without any fuss," said Roquebrune.



 

“It was no life for him,” she said, alluding to her husband's days battling the health condition. The grieving widow continued, "It was no life for him. He was not able to express himself latterly. At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful. I was with him all the time and he just slipped away. It was what he wanted."

Roquebrune is Connery's second wife. A French-Moroccan painter, she met the actor at a golf tournament. "I saw this man from the back, and of course, he had a fine physique. But that first day I didn't know who he was or anything about him," said Roquebrune, according to Nicki Swift.

Sparks flew when their eyes met and Connery, who had separated from his first wife Diane Cilento, was smitten. However, it took the actor two years to reach out to Roquebrune again. Sparks flew once again and the couple united in love.



 

"In the early days, it was difficult for us to see each other. We were in separate queues coming off different flights. There was a partition and underneath I saw these feet. I immediately recognized them and tried to get through to see her but it wasn't allowed, " said Connery, referring to their early romantic days in an interview, according to Nicki Swift.

Eventually, their relationship culminated in marriage in 1975. Connery and Roquebrune had a good relationship. He referred to Roquebrune as the love of his life. Speaking of the life she had with the action star, Roquebrune stated, “He was gorgeous and we had a wonderful life together. He was a model of a man. It is going to be very hard without him, I know that. But it could not last forever and he went peacefully.”



 

The actor's death came as a shock to the world as not many are were aware of his deteriorating health. After his retirement, the actor remained private.

"We are all working at understanding this huge event as it only happened so recently, even though my dad has been unwell for some time. A sad day for all who knew and loved my dad and a sad loss for all people around the world who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had, as an actor," said Connery's son to BBC news, according to People.



 

Meanwhile, speaking of the funeral ceremony for the actor, the representatives stated, "There will be a private ceremony followed by a memorial yet to be planned once the virus has ended."
