Sir Sean Connery Dies At 90 | He Was The First James Bond On The Big Screen

Sir Sean Connery is best known for playing James Bond. He's survived by his second wife, painter Micheline Roquebrune; son, actor Jason Connery and grandson.

Hollywood lost one of its greatest heroes. Legendary James Bond actor, Sean Connery passed away at the age of 90 on October 31, 2020. According to BBC News, the Scottish star died overnight in his sleep in the Bahamas. The actor was unwell for a while, as per the media report.

Connery made his entry into the acting world with No Road Back, a B crime movie in 1956. It was more than half a decade later that he first played the iconic James Bond in Dr. No in 1962. The first to play Bond in film, he starred in seven of the spy thrillers. Despite playing many other roles, Connery is most remembered for working in this franchise. However, towards his last days, the actor became disillusioned with the role.

“If you were his friend in these early days you didn't raise the subject of Bond. He was, and is, a much better actor than just playing James Bond, but he became synonymous with Bond. That was upsetting to him," said his friend, Sir Michael Caine.

In his career that spanned over 40 years, the actor starred in numerous movies such as The Hunt for Red October, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and The Rock. In his early days, the career used his physique and great looks to pick up acting jobs, according to Variety. However, this changed later.

However, it was his impeccable acting skills that gained him many awards, later in life, including an Oscar for The Untouchables, two BAFTA awards (one of which was for Name of the Rose), and three Golden Globes. In 1999, he was selected as People magazine’s Sexiest Man of the Century.

Many took to Twitter to share their sorrow in losing the actor. "I grew up idolizing #SeanConnery. A legend on screen, and off. Rest In Peace," wrote actor, Hugh Jackman.

"Very sorry to hear about the death of one of Edinburgh’s finest sons at 90, former milkman, former lifeguard at Porty Pool and the best James Bond to grace the silver screen, your unique talent will be sorely missed," wrote one fan.

Another said, "Sorry to hear of death of Sean Connery: some of my favorite films, Bond, Man who would be King, Robin & Marion, Longest day - another childhood screen hero gone."

As for his personal life, Connery was married to actress Diane Cilento for 11 years, from 1962-73, which ended in divorce. Cilento passed away in 2011.

Connery is survived by his second wife, painter Micheline Roquebrune, whom he married in 1975; his son by Cilento, actor Jason Connery; and a grandson from Jason’s marriage to actress Mia Sara.
