Teen Kills Himself With Poison After 'Suicide Website' Encourages Him To Go And "Find Peace"

While the boy was already suicidal, his father believes that the people he was chatting with on the website gave him the "final push"

18-year-old Italian student, Matteo Cecconi, swallowed poison to end his own life after being encouraged by trolls on a "suicide website". The teenager had apparently talked of committing suicide before but his father, Alessandro, believes that the people he was chatting with on the website gave him the "final push", reported the Daily Star.

According to reports, Cecconi from Bassano del Grappa, Veneto died on April 26 after he took a concoction of chemicals during a class break. His body was discovered later that day in his bedroom. Alessandro, who had gone through his son's online acitvity, claimed that he was spending time on the suicide website during the two weeks leading up to his death."The morning he decided to ingest the poison he was chatting with a dozen other boys, who supported him in his choice. By sifting through Matteo's computer, we saw that on the morning of April 26 he had connected to the site today under investigation. There were ten other users connected. I can't say with certainty that they pushed him to make that extreme gesture, but they certainly supported and approved the choice."
It is understood other members on the website sent messages to Matteo such as "go and you'll find peace"," the father explained, according to the Daily Star.

This is not the first time something like this had happened. Two other students from Rome, who had also used the same website, had reportedly died after ingesting the same chemicals as Matteo. Alessandro explained that he does not entirely blame the owners of the site but believes that they played a part in his son's decision to commit suicide. "It is a bit like when a person is about to jump off a bridge: usually those who notice it try to dissuade them, protect them. In this case they gave him the final push," he said. His family explained that Matteo had been contemplating suicide for some time, according to the Daily Star.

Matteo was a student of the Fermi industrial technical institute in Bassano and had only just turned 18. The Daily Star reported that a vigil was organized to remember him. Students and teachers shared stories about Matteo and paid tribute. An investigation into his death was launched by police and the website has since been shut down.
