Their eldest daughter along with her husband now seek to gain custody of her other underage siblings in order to continue in her parents' footsteps.
Coronavirus has claimed the lives of many, both young and old. Thirteen children have now tragically been orphaned after their parents died just days apart due to coronavirus. The couple, Vladimir Rodikov and Diana Rodikova, were parents to five biological children and eight foster children, the Sun reported.
The couple had to be hospitalized at the Vasilkovsky central district hospital after developing serious COVID complications in March. The father died on March 20, while his wife struggled to cling on in a critical condition before she was transferred to the intensive care unit of the Alexander Hospital in Kiev. Unfortunately, the beloved mother died just a week later on March 29. Their devastated children were put in the care of the Kiev Regional Children’s Hospital. They have since been relocated to the ‘Sezenkov’, the Kiev regional center for children. Diana had been awarded ‘Mother Heroine’, an honorary title given by the President of Ukraine to women who have given birth and raised five or more children up to the age of eight, just over a month ago, reported the Sun.
The couple had moved to the Kiev region in 2014, with the hope of starting a new life in an orphanage in the village of Lipovy Skitok. Their deaths have rocked the family with just two of their children at adult age. Their Family friend, Olga Onishchenko, explained that the eldest daughter looks to continue in her parents' footsteps and has decided, along with her husband, to take custody of the orphaned adolescents. It has been further reported that the Kiev Regional State Administration is currently considering her request to take custody of the children, reported News AU. The virus that has been claiming millions of lives since its inception has left many children orphaned. A few months ago it was reported that Five children have been orphaned in the US after their parents, Humberto Ruelas-Rivas, 60 and his 38-year-old wife Karina Bonilla died one day apart from COVID-19.
Many online have been using such stories to make anti-maskers and naysayers understand the dire consequences of not following protocols. "The fact that some of you still go around pretending this is a lie should really get a reality check. These children have lost their parents to that dreadful virus. When will you understand? when half the world is wiped out?" a person asked when the story was on online platforms. Another said, "This is heartbreaking. I really wish the Karen I saw today is made to face these kids to understand how horrifying this. She literally refused to wear a mask and called it all a conspiracy. You know what makes no sense, conspiracy or not - PEOPLE ARE DYING. The least you could do is follow protocol."
