Toddler Dies In Locked Vehicle After Dad Refused To Break The Window Of His New Car Fearing Expenses

Sidney Deal's daughter was stuck inside the car alone for an hour.

The life of their child is precious to most parents but unfortunately, there are few people who chose their worldly possessions over their dying child. This dad chose his new car over his child.

According to the New York Post, Sidney Deal from Las Vegas accidentally locked his one-year-old daughter, Sayah Deal inside his car on October 5, 2020. The officers arrived at the scene and offered to break the window of the car or call a tow truck to make the rescue the girl sooner.

They also offered to get a locksmith. However, the adamant man declined it all. Concerned about the potential expenses, he decided to rely on other means.

After several minutes, the officers broke the window of Deal's Nissan Altima. When they pulled out the little girl, she was unresponsive. Soon after, she was declared dead at the scene. While the cause of death is still pending, police authorities believe the girl was trapped inside the vehicle for an hour.

The 27-year-old father was arrested on October 6, 2020, for refusing the attempts to free the girl by breaking the car window. According to the Daily Mail, he was booked at the Clark County Detention Center and is being held on a $20,000 bail. He is charged with child abuse/neglect, according to 8News. It is reported that he did not attend the initial hearing due to some health concerns.

On questioning Deal's brother, he told the officers that he received a call from Deal regarding the incident. Deal told him that he accidentally locked his daughter in the vehicle. He also claimed that the air conditioning was on. Confused by his brother's message, he rushed to Deal's house. On learning what had happened, he immediately wrapped his shirt around his hand and offered the break the window.

However, Deal was not supportive of the idea. He stopped him and told him that he did not have enough money to repair a broken window. Instead, he asked his brother to get in touch with his mother who would in turn get her insurance company to send a locksmith.

Besides, Deal's partner informed the authorities that she also called the insurance company for him. But Deal was not convinced with the price quoted for a tow truck and refused to accept it as well.

According to Fox 5, Deal had gotten into a fight with his girlfriend and was taking his daughter to spend the day at his brother's house. He told the authorities that his little girl walked from the back seat to the front after getting locked in.

After a while, she laid down on the floorboard of the backseat. He also admitted that he thought she was just fast asleep with the air conditioner running.

She told that her son did not think his baby would be harmed in the locked car especially because of the air conditioning. She added that he loved his daughter dearly.
