Despite having a complicated relationship with her during his youth, the actor is very close to her now
Pierce Brosnan is not only one of Hollywood's most handsome men but is also an established actor who has won the hearts of women globally. There is one woman however who is very special to Brosnan - his mother, May Smith. Despite sharing a complicated relationship with her during his youth, the actor has written a loving tribute to his mom on her 89th birthday, reported Newsner.
On April 4, Brosnan posted a photo of hers on his Instagram page and wrote, “Happy 89th birthday to my darling Mother May. You have given me the world with your love. All my love in return.” It has been reported that while Brosnan has a close relationship with his mother now, it wasn't always so. He didn’t have a conventional home life growing up, as both his parents were absent. Brosnan was born on May 16, 1953, in County Louth, Ireland and his father, Thomas Brosnan, abandoned the family when Brosnan was still an infant. Soon after, his mother left to work as a nurse in London, leaving him to be raised by his grandparents. The actor revealed that he holds no grudge against his mother for her absence and in fact, respects her decision to make a better life for herself under bad circumstances, reported Newsner.
“To be Catholic in the ’50s, and to be Irish Catholic in the ’50s, and have a marriage which was not there, a father who was not there, consequently, the mother, the wife suffered greatly. My mother was very courageous. She took the bold steps to go away and be a nurse in England. Basically wanting a better life for her and myself. My mother came home once a year, twice a year," Brosnan had told Cigar Aficionado in 1997, according to Newsner. He eventually moved in with his mother at age 10 and she raised him from then on as a single mother. Brosnan went on to pursue an acting career and the rest is history.
