A 20-year-old man tragically became the victim of a fatal stabbing after bravely shielding a great-great-grandmother from being repeatedly impaled. The shocking incident unfolded last week in a west London kebab shop, where 84-year-old Betty Walsh had arrived to get her supper. According to Daily Mail, a knifeman suddenly launched an unprovoked attack and started stabbing the retired barmaid at the Best Kebab and Fish Bar on Albany Parade, Brentford, west London. At this point, a young man named Ali Abucar Ali stepped in to rescue her but while doing so, ended up being stabbed to death.
Recalling the horrific scene, a bystander said, "I was going to get a kebab but when I went out, I saw the police arrive. The boy was on the floor covered in blood and they were trying to give CPR, but he could not be saved." A woman, who wished to remain anonymous, shared, "We watched paramedics trying to revive the young man and we saw them pronounce him dead at the scene, just awfully sad." Ali is now being hailed a hero for courageously risking his life to save Betty. "I heard about how the boy went to help the old lady from a friend. He was a hero. What he did was so honorable, and it is such a shame he died," expressed a local resident.

Unfortunately, the young man didn't live to hear the praise for himself. The news of Ali's death left his family devasted. Per reports, Ali's mother initially rushed to comfort Betty's family but was left broken when police told her that her son had been knifed to death. Ali, who was described as a "really hardworking, good lad," had recently won a scholarship. When his family was approached for a comment, they didn't wish to share anything.
As for the elderly woman, she was in a critical state right after the attack according to her family. However, following a kidney operation, she is now doing relatively well. Betty was rushed to the St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington right after the horrific ordeal and she remains there. The pensioner's family said it's too soon to say when Betty will be allowed to leave the hospital but assured that she was well enough to ask them about the results of England's soccer match with Albania. Her family went on to describe Betty as a "lively and fit" woman who "walked every day and was a strong woman and went out shopping a lot - she wasn't frail at all. She was football-mad and Brentford FC-mad."
Everyone in the area knew Betty not only for her job at The Griffin pub but also due to her extremely "sociable and chatty" nature. "She had lots of friends around here and I would always say hello to her if she walked past," revealed a close friend. Betty, who recently retired after working as a barmaid for four local pubs, is the "rock" of her family. She brought up her three sons and three daughters by herself after her husband died more than 30 years ago. "This will probably have shaken her up quite a lot," her eldest daughter, Bridget, said of the senseless attack. "She didn't realize she had been punched and didn't realize she had been stabbed until someone came out to help her."
Explaining what had happened, the 60-year-old continued, "Ali went up and asked what all the commotion was about, challenged her attacker, and tried to help her. What happened to him next was a tragedy...Last night I got back from work and was told 'mum's been stabbed.' I was so scared and in complete shock." Bridget is grateful for their neighbors who ultimately saved her life. "I am just glad she is alive. We just want to thank the police and all the neighbors who helped our mum. They were there instantly and kept us informed. They are heroes." A suspect, who is well known in the area, was arrested over the weekend on charges of suspected murder and attempted murder. Authorities believe that it was not a terror-related attack.
